Tennis

Four reasons why kids should be excited to play tennis this summer

1 - Events all-over as the grass court season makes its comeback

It’s event central this summer with an endless star-studded list set to pack their bags and jet over to the home of the grass court season.

To kick-start the action, there will be big names in action at the Surbiton Trophy, set to take place on 29 May – 5 June, closely followed by:

And finally - one loved by the nation - we have the Cinch Championship (Queen’s!) which will be held from the 13 June – 19 June.

2 - The Brits to make their return for grass court season

Support the Brits as they take centre stage on home soil this summer with the likes of former world No.1, Andy Murray, current British No.1 Cam Norrie, top 100 player Harriet Dart, and many more.

LTA Youth Ambassador, 19-year-old Emma Raducanu, is also likely to be in action on the grass courts, marking her first appearance on home turf since her triumph at the US Open.

3 - A summer designed to make memories

Created to kick-off your summer the right way, the LTA’s Youth programme is designed for everyone and anyone – of all different abilities – to take part, learn from some of the LTA’s best Youth coaches, and most importantly, to just have fun. It’ll make for a summer you’ll never forget!

Find a venue near you to find out everything you need to know about the various summer activities available to you this summer, or head to LTA Rally to get yourself onto a park court near you.

4 - Sun, fun, and rackets

It’s that time of year again. Time to prep those all-important tennis outfits! Get your shoes on, pick up a racket, and make the summer months count by making your way down to your local park!

Tennis was a game made to be social; designed for all the family, a friendly stand-off between friends and, when paired with sunshine and BBQs, you can’t really go wrong, can you?

Along with taking a trip to your local park, the LTA’s Big Tennis Weekends are another great way to get on court this year. On hold during the pandemic, the Big Tennis Weekend are back and better than ever, with various parks, clubs, and community tennis venues encouraging you all to come along and give tennis a go for free! They’re basically open days for tennis and you find a local one to you from later in May and throughout the summer via the LTA website.

Top Tips

For all those reading thinking ‘tennis will never be for me,’ well, we may have something for you. The answer? Padel Tennis.

Widely popular across the world, Padel is pretty much a blend of tennis, squash, and arguably, swing ball (you’ll understand when you see the rackets). If that doesn’t intrigue anyone, then I don’t know what will.

So, why is padel so popular? You’ll have to find that one out yourself. Find out all you need to know about the up-and-coming game here.
