Sports Update

What a summer of sport we have had!

TENNIS

Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final to the Men's Wimbledon Tennis Tournament and Marketa Vondrousova beat Ons Jabeur to take the Women's title. In the Wheelchair tennis, Alfie Hewitt lost the Men's final to Tokito Oda and Diede de Groot won the Women's Wheelchair tennis final defeating Jiske Griffioen.

CRICKET

The Ashes competition gave us tense games and controversial moments.

The Men's competition ended in a draw but Australia therefore retain the Ashes. People are still talking about the actions of Australia's wicket keeper Alex Carey who successfully stumped England's Jonny Bairstow when he was out of his crease, at the end of the over but before ‘over’ had been called!

The competition also saw the retirement of Stuart Broad.

The Women's Ashes also ended in a draw once the points from the Test, three Twenty20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals were totalled.

In The Hundred the Oval Invincibles won the Men's Hundred and Southern Brave won the Women's Hundred.

FOOTBALL

It was the Women's Football World Cup this summer and we are sure that you were all watching as avidly as we were.

The competition saw some incredible football, tight games, lots and lots of penalties as well as a nail biting final which saw Spain beat England 1-0.

Huge congratulations to the Lionesses for inspiring young footballers everywhere with their incredible skills and team spirit.

England won Silver in the Netball World Cup as well, this time missing out to an incredible Australian team who won the title for the 12th time!

Again, the England team were inspiring young netballers with their fast paced, exciting play and the final was as exciting as we all expected it to be!
