What is The Hundred?

This summer The Hundred is launching – it’s a new 100 ball cricket competition, with some of the world’s best players taking part.

England stars like Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler are going to be playing for one of the eight new teams, based in the biggest cities in England and Wales. Overseas legends like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell will also be here and will be looking to put on a great show.

So how does it work?

  • It's 100 balls per innings. Whoever scores the most runs wins.

  • The fielding side change ends after 10 balls.

  • Bowlers deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls. The captain decides.

  • Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game.

  • A match of The Hundred will last approx. two and a half hours.

There will also be music, entertainment and great food at each match during the competition, meaning it’ll be a great event for all the family.

When does it start?

The great thing about The Hundred is that all of the matches will be on during the school summer holidays. The first match in the men’s competition will be on Friday 17 July when Oval Invincibles take on Welsh Fire at the Kia Oval in London.

The women’s competition starts on 22 July with a match between Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals in Worcester.

Throughout the competition there will be multiple ‘double headers’ where a men’s match and a women’s match will take place on the same day in the same venue.

Finals days are scheduled for the 14 August (women’s) 15 August (men’s).

Tickets

Adult tickets for the men’s group stage matches start at £10, with women’s starting at £8. Tickets for under-16s are £5 for all matches at all grounds (under 5’s go free with an adult ticket).

The first priority sales window opens on 12 February. This window is open to anybody who has signed up to thehundred.com. Tickets go on general sale on 8 April.

As we go live with this article there isn't a link directly to tickets yet, but they will be available through  https://www.thehundred.com/signup

Is it on TV?

Yes! All of the men’s games will be live on Sky Sports but if you don’t have a subscription you’ll still be able to watch 10 matches live on the BBC, including the men’s and women’s finals days!

And if you can’t watch it live, you can still catch the best of the action on The Hundred website and Instagram feed.

How are the players are selected?

Following the initial player signings for the men’s and women’s squads in October 2019, The Hundred hosted the first ever UK player draft live on Sky for the men’s competition.

During The Hundred Draft the head coaches from each of the men’s teams selected up to 15 new players to join their squad. On the night of the draft, the next round of women’s players were also announced.

The teams will be completed by May when final ‘wildcard’ player picks will take place.
