Skiing is featuring in a number of different formats at the Youth Olympic Games and GB Snowsport have a team of athletes aged between 14 and 17 years of age.

Bobsleigh & skeleton

Bobsleigh and skeleton both feature at the Youth Olympic Games this month and GB have competitors in Bobsleigh.

We are going to focus on skeleton for this article because that is how you can start this sport with junior taster sessions in Bath.

Ice hockey

‘Ice Hockey is the fastest team sport on the planet’

It teaches teamwork, strength, responsibility, confidence and leadership as well as offering adventure and excitement!

Although GB are strong in the skiing competitions at the Winter Youth Olympics, they don’t have any snowboarders in the competition. So perhaps one of you will be our next GB hope for the next Olympics like Dusty Hendrickson from the USA ?

Youth olympic games

Between January 9th-22nd in Lausanne, Switzerland it’s the Winter Youth Olympic Games. The world’s best athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 will compete in 8 sports, 16 disciplines and 81 sporting events.

The competitors have been training hard...even when they haven’t had any snow!

We see sport as very much a subject that should be enjoyed by all. Our main objective is to find a sport that each pupil can enjoy for not only their time at school but through their adult life. With this in mind, just like Maths or English, every child takes part in all aspects of the subject including on match days when all pupils (in Years 3 to 8) play without anyone ‘left behind’.
