School Games 2021

In 2021, the Youth Sport Trust will be hosting the School Games at Loughborough University. The last School Games took place in 2018. This is an inspiring and exciting event to look forward to.

With thanks to the Youth Sport Trust for the use of this video.

They will expect around 1200 aspiring sports stars aged between 13-18 from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who will be competing in 11 different sports.

They will compete for their nation in the following  sports:

Athletics

Cycling

Netball

Wheelchair Tennis

Rowing

Hockey

Triathlon

BMX

BMX is new next year!

Cricket

Laser Run

Wheelchair Basketball

Each sport will have a selection policy so if you excel in any of the sports listed, or have been inspired by this magazine to try a new sport, have a look at their website to see how you could take potentially take part. Some of the sports will use this event as a way to recruit talented young people onto their performance pathway.

It will be more than just about the competitions too. There will be ‘come and try’ sessions in between events as well as mentors from the Youth Sport Trust on hand to share their knowledge and insight. There will be vital advice from those who have been through the elite system on how to plan for life in the future when you may be faced with injury or uncertainty like the current situation is causing. Matches and competitions have been cancelled and it’s important to know how to deal with these difficult challenges.

Everyone will stay on the Loughborough University campus so they will experience an atmosphere like being in a professional athlete village. They will use the dining halls and receive food education too.

Schools can buy tickets to watch the events at an Olympic themed festival and there will also be volunteer recruitment to look out for. They want the Games to feature young people as much as possible so if you’re interested in becoming involved as a young official why not contact the relevant Sports Governing Body.

This is a great event for everyone to look forward to and plan to either try to compete or attend.
